SERIES DE HBO SE PODRÁN VER EN NETFLIX
Warner Bros Discovery y Netflix están en una negociación para que series del catálogo de HBO sean vendidas al gigante pionero del streaming.
El CEO de Warner Bros. Discovery, David Zaslav, está buscando darle licencias de algunos de los programas antiguos de HBO a varias plataformas de streaming, entre ellas, Netflix, quien hasta ahora ha sido el más interesado en obtener los permisos.
HBO ya ha otorgado licencias de contenido en el pasado para algunos canales de televisión estadounidenses como TBS y A&E, en donde se transmitían series exitosas de la cadena como Sex and the City y The Sopranos; incluso en 2014, HBO y Amazon Prime Video llegaron a un acuerdo de licencia exclusivo de transmisión de series como Boardwalk Empire, Six Feet Under y True Blood.

En el pasado, HBO ya había otorgado licencias de contenido para algunos canales de televisión, pero es destacable que Warner Bros Discovery busque agregar algunos de sus programas más famosos en medio de la guerra del streaming, en donde la exclusividad de sus programas es uno de sus puntos más fuertes.
Según se dice, tal movimiento es para beneficiarse financieramente dado que Zaslav prometió abrir la biblioteca de Warner Bros y HBO para vender sus programas de televisión y películas al mejor precio, además, esta decisión tendría como objetivo que los programas tengan alcance a un público nuevo, ya que, en muchos países del mundo, otras plataformas de streaming tienen audiencia.
Pero ¿Cuáles son los cambios que está buscando realizar Warner en cuanto al Streaming?
El reciente movimiento de Warner Bros Discovery buscando distribuir sus series en otras plataformas, no ha sido la primera de sus estrategias, ya que a principios de año, luego de cancelar Westworld, decidió eliminar la serie de Max y la distribuyó a otras plataformas como Roku y Tubi, al igual que otros programas como Raised by Wolves, Legendary, FBoy Island, The Nevers, Finding Magic Mike, Head of the Class y The Time Traveler’s.
Si bien hasta el momento la creadora de Insecure, Issa Rae, no se ha pronunciado al respecto, los showrunners de Westworld, Jonathan Nolan y Lisa Joy, apoyaron la decisión de Warner sobre distribuir la serie en otros canales de streaming para “tener la oportunidad de darle la bienvenida a otra audiencia”, según confirmaron en un comunicado.
Por su parte, David Zaslav afirmó que la licencia de sus programas forma parte de un plan que tiene como objetivo reducir $3,500 millones en costos después de la fusión de $43,000 millones de la compañía. Aun así, tomar estas decisiones no ha sido un proceso fácil, ya que deben cumplir con lo prometido sin dejar de lado las necesidades y peticiones de los creativos. “Pero hubo muchas cosas que fueron inesperadamente peores de lo que pensábamos, abriste el armario, las cosas se cayeron, las estamos arreglando”, agregó el CEO.
Al igual que el CEO, el director de contenido de HBO, Casey Bloys, piensa que el contenido de HBO ya no debe ser exclusivo de la compañía, ya que buscarían obtener regalías a través de otras plataformas de streaming: “Estas son series caras, la idea de que se queden ahí por el precio de 15 dólares al mes, la televisión nunca ha funcionado así”, explicó. Por ahora, solo queda esperar para confirmar si Warner el cierre de las negociaciones con Netflix, los detalles de estas y, sin en un futuro se podrían incluir más programas además de Insecure.
